How can I imrprove elderly mental health through music?
Research suggests that listening to music can release dopamine, a naturally occurring chemical associated with happiness. Music has been a constant in my life. It has been my companion through my darkest and happiest moments. In all situations music has always been a positive aspect of my life. I wanted to see how I could use music to promote positive mental effects in others.
Why I chose this project
As a child I grew up with both my grandpas being musicians. You could say music has always had a huge impact on my life. Late last year I unfortunatley lost one of my grandfathers. He suffered from Lewy Body Dementia, which took a heavy toll on his mental health later in life. His passing really inspired me to continue the legacy of creating and performing music but with a twist. Nise Veterans center is where my gradnfather stayed neer the end of his life. I have seen the way residents are there, they dont have much opportuinty for fun activities or events. I decided that to thank them for taking such good care of my grandpa I would put on a large even for the residents and staff, which involved music, gifts, santa clause and more.

Looking back
Throughout this project I learned this importance, of service to our community, and honnoring members of our kupuna. I was heavily challenge by my stage fright, which I feel this project helped me mostly overcome. Aswell as having to communicate and plan with people who I have never met before.
