Semester 2
Semester 2: For the second semester of social studies our big focus was on our"Decade Project". For this project each of us were assigned a decade starting in the early 1900s. My decade was the 50s, and throughout the months we would research our decade making slide shows that will all culminate into one big slide show.
Project Reflection
Name of Assignment: The Decade Project
Subject: Social Studies
Facilitator/Teacher: Mr. Gorring
Description of Work/Assignment:For the Decade Project, each student was assigned a decade from the 20th century. Each week we would have to research the topic for the week and create a slideshow about it. It was the end of quarter 3 where we had to put all of our research together into a big slide show.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why? I feel like I used global awareness in this project. The reason I feel I used that is because I feel like I demonstrated my understanding of the thinking, motivations and actions of different cultures and countries.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why? I am most proud of the way that my slideshow turned out specifically my transitions and organizations of the slides.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment? I feel that I gained much more of an understanding of how people functioned back In the 50s
What was most difficult about completing this task? I think the most difficult part was having to do a slide show each week, and having to keep up with it.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently? If i could improve my work, I would definitely practiced my presentation skills because I felt my presentation was a little choppy
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past? In the past I learned a lot about the 50s from my grandparents, so I had some prior knowledge about my decade.
How can you apply this to future learning? In the future I can use my new knowledge about making a slideshow look nice if I need to make a slide.

Project Reflection
For the American Hero project I chose Walt Disney. My project tells the story of how Walt Disney started Disney Co., Disneyland, and Walt Disney World. It also talks about the challenges he faced as he became a self-made man and what makes him my hero. The 21st-century skill I used while completing this project is thinking and problem-solving because the issues that Walt Disney face wasn’t readily obvious so I needed to solve that problem that some of my classmates didn't have to face. Many of my classmates chose American heroes who are well known because of the challenges that they faced whereas Walt Disney is a success story and his challenges were personal instead of social challenges. I am proud of my slideshow and how it is organized and the beautiful pictures that I've used. I improved on my skill of digital literacy and became quite good at creating a structured Google Slide. The most difficult part of the project was being creative in finding the challenges that Walt Disney faced as he built his business. If I could do this over, I would spend more time creating more slides and putting more information about Disney. Knowing more about my American hero taught me life lessons in work ethic and not to give up. I will definitely use my knowledge of creating Google Slides in my future classes.
